Take a trip down Memory Lane
Who are we?
It began as a project to convert some old video tapes as a birthday present for my mum. Reading through online forums to discover the best methods and scouring the internet for the right equipment was a mammoth task, but seeing the absolute joy on her face as she watched through footage she hadn’t seen in 20 years made it all worthwhile.
After seeing how happy this made her, I decided that I’d love to be able to bring the same happiness to other people too and with that, Braintree Video Converters was born!
What can we do?
Capture various video formats including VHS, VHS-C, Hi 8, Video 8 and MiniDV. We can also capture and convert audio cassettes into .mp3 or .WAV files.
Improve the visual and audio quality to ensure the tapes look and sound the best they can.
Convert the files to either USB (recommended) or DVD so they are safe for years.
Repair damaged tapes or remove mould to ensure the footage can be retrieved successfully.
Pricing
We believe that the fairest way to price our services is to only charge you for the amount of footage you have rather than for each tape. This means that you will receive the best possible price for each one we convert, but it also makes it pretty difficult to give you an accurate quote until we have them in our hands.
We have included our price guide below for your reference that you can use to get a rough idea of the cost.
Conversion
£10 per hour (minimum of 1-hour charge per tape)
Expedited Conversion
+50% conversion cost for each tape (excludes cost of USB/DVD storage)
Our basic price structure for converting your tapes is £10 for the first hour (minimum per tape). Each hour after that is charged at the same rate but is split into 15 minutes increments. We also offer reduced minimum charges of £5.00 (up to 30 minutes of footage) per tape for large orders.
Converting is a time consuming process and wait times can sometimes exceed several weeks/months. If you need your order by a certain date, this can sometimes be accommodated at an additional cost (provided there is enough time before the desired date). Please let us know when getting in touch to see if this is something that can be arranged.
Storage
£5 - £10 (per USB or DVD)
Although we can convert to both USB and DVD, we highly recommend the former as DVDs themselves are highly outdated these days! USBs are much more reliable and versatile (as well as cheaper for you!).
USB storage costs between £7.50 - £10 for each stick (although you can store all of your files on a single stick).
DVDs cost either £5 or £7.50 each (depending on the size required) and you can normally only store one video per disc.
Cleaning and repair
£5 - £7.50 (per affected tape)
Sometimes your tapes may need a little TLC before we can retrieve the footage from them. They may be mouldy (easily spotted by a white powder inside the casing) or the tape itself may have snapped. Don’t fret! We can help with both of these problems and get your footage safely off of them.
